What's on my mind

No Boys Allowed

May 18, 2018

Another nice spring day here today. The leaves are popping out on the trees and I watched a crow struggle with a large twig for his nest. He finally gave up and let it go. Saw a bubble bee the size of a jet plane flitting among the purple violets in the back yard. Took a few minutes from chores and painted my sign for the studio/she shed. A fairly productive day. Will be punching the frosty rug tonight with another sneak peek tomorrow.

Frosty Flakes

May 21, 2018

Well as promised here is the progress on my snowman project. He is slow in developing but will be done in the next couple of weeks.

Things are getting busy here with a request for some paper mâché sheep. The one person assembly line went into motion this morning. Hoping to create at least 8 this week. It is a good thing I enjoy making them. I dropped off some pieces for sale at Lismore Farms in River John yesterday so please stop on by and check them out. You can connect to the farm on my link page. Wishing you all a great week.

These are the finished sheep for Lismore Farms. They are packed and ready to head to the market.

They are each sporting a newly crocheted scarf from hand dyed wool with a lovely scarf pin. I hope they enjoy their new homes.

"Frosty Flakes"

 June 8,2018

I guess I have been slack in my writing but sometimes life does get in the way. Today I am sharing my completed rug "Frosty Flakes". It was fun to do but seemed to take way to long. I have discovered in my punching journey that working with the fine needles takes much longer than the regular needle. It does give a much stiffer and compact feel to the finished project. I am still undecided as to which needle I prefer. I will keep you updated as I continue to experiment.

Tomorrow I am off to my first hook in with the Rugg Bees in Yarmouth Nova Scotia and I am excited. I expect it to be a wonderful experience. Please stop by tomorrow for pics and a chat on how things went.

June 24, 2018

I can not believe how quickly time flies. I just realized didn't let you all know how wonderful the hook in was in Yarmouth. I had found and entertaining day. Met so many great people and will surely attend again.

Tonight I am preparing for a small workshop of two tomorrow. Kits are prepared lunch is planned and notes are reviewed. So looking forward to sharing the wonderful world of rug punching.

June 25, 2018 workshop

 June 27,2018

What a wonderful workshop on Monday. These two students were super at punching and did an amazing job. I so enjoyed teaching them. Watching their progress and the delight on their faces as the project took shape was a wonderful way to spend the day. Well done Leslie and Carmen!

July 15, 2018

Well it has been a while since I posted last. Things have gotten very busy for me and I have been building frames

and dyeing wool for days. So excited to being creating projects to share the art of rug punch. Love seeing the pleasure on the students faces when they see their project taking form.

Looking forward to the next two workshops at Ewe-nique Boutnique and Lismore Farms. I am sure that these students will be amazed at how quickly and easily they can create a item for their home.

Will be doing a punching demonstration at Lismore Farms on July 22, 2018. Please come out and see what punching is all about and enjoy the beauty of Lismore Farms. Their farm is a wonderful place and their Wool shop full of delights for the fibre artist.

July 23, 2018

I just have to share the great time I had at Ewe-inqué Boutique in Oxford, Nova Scotia. What a wonderful talented group of ladies in my class.

We had some laughs and I am sure they all learned a lot. Would certainly love to have each and everyone in my class again.

Well done ladies! Please take a bow!

Have to mention too the fabulous time I had giving a demonstration at Lismore Farms in River John, NS. Thank you to all ( and there were many of you ) who stopped by to chat and ask questions about rug punching. It was wonderful to see so many interested and how great the children did on the practice piece. I hope to see all in you in a future class.

The Star Wisher

July 24, 2018

Just finished this tonight. As you can see I punch what ever makes me happy no matter the season. Which is how it should be. I took a break the last couple of days from workshop prep and lost myself in my punching. Ready now to dye more wool and make more frames. I titled this "The Star Wisher".

Dyed wool ready for a special project.

Are these colours beautiful or what? They are all ready for a special project that I will be starting this week. I am excited to see how this will turn out. It is a one of a kind that will never be duplicated due to copy right and I am pleased to be granted permission to create this. So please stay tuned for updates.

Yarmouth workshop.

Sept. 21, 2018

It has been a little while again since I lasted posted but I have been going full out preparing for and teaching punch workshops. My latest was last Saturday Sept 15th in Yarmouth Nova Scotia. It was another wonderful day spent teaching a great workshop. Thank you ladies for such a fun time. You all did an amazing job for your first punch class. I hope that you will continue to explore this great technique of creating rugs and other room accessories.

This coming week is another busy one for me as I will be in Kentvile teaching and River John. Looking forward to these, not just for the class but to enjoy the great scenery on the drive there.

One more workshop booked for October and then I hope to finish my special project and move on to the next. Looking forward to getting some of my own punching completed.

I hope everyone enjoyed the start of the autumn season and I hope too that the weather stays just right.

October 14, 2018

I would like to begin today's note with a great big thank you to all my students for giving me the opportunity to teach them these last

10 months. It was a very busy but throughly enjoyable time. It is so rewarding to be able to watch a student take a piece of fabric, wool and punch needle and create a wool punched keepsake.

I am so looking forward to teaching future workshops and meeting another wonderful group of students in 2019. For the next couple of months though I shall be busy designing workshop punch projects and doing a little personal punching.

So please visit me here in a couple of weeks for an update. I look forward to sharing the many ideas swirling in my head. See you soon.

November 16, 2018

Well winter hit here yesterday with a quick drop in temperature and our first snow. The snow clad trees brought inspiration for rug patterns and added a hint of Christmas to the air. To add to the wonder of the first snow I received an email from one of my workshop students. Florence Timberlake sent a picture of her recently completed rug from of a Christine Little design, "Wish Upon a Star".  What a great job she did. Florence claims she is definitely hooked on rug punching. Thanks so much for sharing Florence and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Still working on projects for next year so please check back for updates. Hope all your holiday preparations are following into place.
